Strengths: Ideal size and strength. Has the ability to play defensive end or tackle. Adequate speed. A smart football player; always in the right positions. An intense player that plays to the whistle. Holds his ground and rarely gets knocked backwards.

Weakness: Not a elite athlete. Won't be a dominant pass rusher. Somewhat of a specialized player that is better for some defensive schemes than others; best fit is at defensive end in a 3-4. Not explosive off the snap.

Comments: Long is a good but not spectacular defensive end. He isn't flashy and won't rack up the sacks, but in the right system he can be a perennial Pro Bowler. He will fit best with a team that runs the 3-4 defense, but could make the switch to tackle if taken by a team that runs the 4-3. He isn't a franchise altering player, but he will be a valuable addition to someone's defensive line and should be a top five pick in the draft.
